Creative Musician, Facilitator and Technologist
Biography
I am fascinated by the way in which sound contextualises our lives, the memories it can hold and the secrets it can reveal. There is always something to learn when we truly listen.
I believe music and sound offer the promise of adventure, exploring and navigating the abstract; the opportunity to look within ourselves and process complex emotions, expressing the ineffable; embrace the complexity of life and extend an invitation of connection to ourselves, each other and the world.
Having been fortunate to have been offered a range of instrumental tuition through school, and encouraged by supportive parents, I spent my formative years playing in orchestras and bands. In my later teens I was given a 4-track tape recorder, opening up a whole world of creative possibilities. I went on to study a BMus with a focus on Music Technology at Edinburgh University where I was introduced to more abstract sound-based composition and working with programming / electronics to create unique systems and interactions. During my undergraduate degree I was president of the Untapped Talent Society which provided rehearsal facilities, performance opportunities and community for students interested in playing live music. I later returned to study an MSc in Sound Design where I focused my interests in sound technology and physical interaction, alongside immersive audio.

Following my studies I took on some instrumental teaching, sound engineering and sound design roles alongside video editing and playing in bands, it was during these years that I navigated my way towards the work I do now. A sense of community has always held a great deal of importance to me and helping others find that through sound and music, as well as creating a space where they can feel safe to be their authentic selves is something I feel passionately about. Understanding that I am often working with vulnerable people I undertook the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills and more recently completed a certificate in Mental Health First Aid. I take my responsibility to the people I work with seriously and I believe that all people should be treated with care and compassion.
Central to my work are the ideas of play and curiosity. So many of us have forgotten how to engage with these ideas – at some point ground down by social expectation or responsibility. I endeavour to remedy this by removing access barriers to joyful creative experiences where people feel safe to exist authentically, and by reframing music and art as something fundamentally human, deeply rooted in communication, expression and, crucially, freedom.

As a neurodivergent, queer person, I feel passionate about celebrating difference and creativity in all it’s forms; music has been a constant spark of joy in my life and by helping people to access their creativity and sense of wonder I hope to offer them some of what music has given me.
The arts are messy, inspiring, weird and complex; there is nothing more human than that.
